OBITUARY

Christopher Nugent died July 2nd at 8:30 o'clock p. m., after an illness of five days, which came as the result of an accident which occured Friday, June 27, while he was working on a threshing machine at Mr. Gossett's farm south of town. A pitchfork became entangled in the belt of the separator, throwing it with such terrific force that the bowels were almost instantly paralyzed.
Drs. Harned, Meyers and Kerr operated on him but found that little could be done.
Mr. Nugent was born in Frampton, Quebec, Canada in 1866. He came to the United States in 1888. Ten years ago he came to Oklahoma and has since made his home in Lawton and Chattanooga.
He leaves to mourn his loss, three sisters: Susie, Ellen and Elizabeth and five brothers: Tom, John, Mike, James and Andy; besides his cousins, John and William Murphy of this city.
He was a devout Christian, a member of the Catholic church all his life. He lived a life that gained the respect of all who knew him.
The funeral was held, July the Fourth, the Rev. Father Van, officiating.
High mass was celebrated in honor of the dead, at which the Gecoba Bros., of Sterling, Okla., sang.
The remains were intered in the Catholic cemetery, north of town.
God grant that when stars gleam brightly,
Some midnight when church bells ring,
When the drifts of snow lie whitely,
   And choirs unnumbered sing,
He, safe from all peril and danger,
In the court of heaven may see
The Babe who lay in the manger,
   And died on Calvary.
